NoCo Bead & Metal
Artist: Kelly Gonzales
As a young girl, I was fascinated by architecture and construction. Frank Lloyd Wright captured my heart and imagination. I was my dad’s right hand “man” as he repaired and constructed our surroundings, assisted neighbors as part of his career. I dreamed of being an architect and pursued my education as such. Influenced by nature and a call to build with the environment in mind, I would successfully pursue my degrees in construction/engineering and business and enjoyed a fulfilling career in this field.
During my career, I began to design and construct my own “mini projects” as wearable art. Influenced by my education and practical experience I learned to work with many mediums such as metal, wood, up cycled products, fibers, leather, and gemstones. I became an avid sewer, and jewelry maker. I then sought out formal training in metalsmithing as well as learning from friends and fellow artisans. I have been a full time artisan since 2010!
My “mini projects” seek to do exactly what Frank Lloyd Wright set out to do; unite people to nature in harmony. It’s a wonderful feeling when you can wear something that connects you to your surroundings! All of my works are individually created with the influence of my surroundings and the curiosity of exploring new materials and new techniques.
